Keith Vidal, M.S., P.E. became actively involved in Standards development through his membership in the National Academy of Forensic Engineers (NAFE), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).
Mr. Vidal was appointed Chair of the ANSI Accredited Standard Committee (ASC) A1264 - Safety Requirements for Workplace Floor and Wall Openings, Stairs and Railing Systems, in the spring of 2003. As chairman he has oversight responsibilities for the ANSI ASC A1264.1 and A1264.2 standards. As the past chairman of ANSI/ASSE A1264.2, and the Standards Development Committee for the American Society of Safety Engineers, Keith Vidal is at the forefront of the standards that affect the lives of everyone. For many years he utilized the Sigler Pendulum for slip resistance studies. As technology has progressed, other tribometers have been developed that have become more worthy than their predecessors. He has used the Horizontal Pull Slipmeter (HPS), The Brungraber MARK II (PIAST), and the English XL (VIT), in his investigations. His active involvement with ASTM has allowed him the opportunity to observe and use every other tribometer under consideration by ASTM. He is a certified tribometrist in the use of the Variable Incidence Tribometer (VIT), also known as the English XL. See http://www.slipandfall.com/Summer_2001.htm for more information on this subject. |
